JEAN FAUTRIER
Nudes
3 May through 6 July 2001
UPPER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK

While Fautrier has often been recognized in the Untied States for his abstract paintings, little of his earlier work is exhibited. On view is a large bronze sculpture of a standing female nude, one of only twenty-two sculptures produced by Fautirer, along with a group of over forty figurative ink and charcoal works on paper. The expressionistic strokes on paper and the striking form of the figure reveal the artist's breadth and diversity of talent as a draftsman and a sculptor.
