Michael Werner Gallery, in cooperation with David Kordanksy Gallery, Los Angeles, is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Aaron Curry (b. 1972, San Antonio, TX). This is the artist's first project for Michael Werner.
In an historic Robert Adam house in London's West End, Aaron Curry installed a group of new works that further explore his interests in a wide range of art historical and popular sources. Through references ranging from the Chicago Imagists to Surrealism and Primitivism, as well as contemporary advertising, pop music and Hollywood B-movies, the sculptures and paintings of Aaron Curry fuse Modernism's formal vocabulary with the mass media and popular culture. The works form a fragmented, Baroque presentation, something Michael Ned Holte has described as "a constellation of already ruined or cleverly salvaged cultural signifiers, carefully collected and imaginatively recombined."
Recent exhibitions of Aaron Curry's work include L.A. Trash & Treasure at Milliken Gallery, Stockholm; Red Eye: Los Angeles Artists from the Rubell Family Collection, Rubell Family Collection, Miami; and Untitled (for H. C. Westermann) at The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu. This fall Aaron Curry's work will be included in Unmonumental, an exhibition inaugurating the New Museum of Contemporary Art's new space in Manhattan.
Aaron Curry studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. He lives and works in Los Angeles, California. The new works of Aaron Curry are available for viewing in London by appointment. For more information please contact the gallery.
