Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of monotypes by the renowned Danish artist Per Kirkeby (b. 1938) and a selection of ancient South Arabian alabaster heads.
Kirkeby has worked in a variety of mediums throughout his career and is widely acclaimed as a painter, sculptor, filmmaker, and writer. While monotypes are an unusual part of Kirkeby's oeuvre, the works in this exhibition have a distinctive combination of both his paintings and works on paper, due to the nature of the monotype process.
The exhibition will focus on a beautiful series of 15 large-scale monotypes from the late 1980s and early 1990s and a group of 15 rare ancient South Arabian alabaster heads, of Sabean origin, from the 1st century BC/AD. The juxtaposition of ancient figurative art and contemporary abstract works on paper will provide a unique viewing opportunity and stunning visual contrast.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10am until 6pm. The gallery will be closed from 23 December 2000 through 1 January 2001. The exhibition will be on view from 30 November 2000 until 20 January 2001.
