For summer, VW (VeneKlasen/Werner) is pleased to present James Lee Byars: The Poetic Conceit and Other Works.Throughout his prolific career Byars pursued with tireless curiosity his life-long obsessions with ideal form and a personalized notion of “perfect”. On view in the gallery's cinema is the 16mm film “Autobiography” (1970), a rare example of James Lee Byars’ use of film in which the artist appears on screen for a fraction of a second. Together, these four pieces form a distinct body of work that explores and questions the ethereal nature of language and communication.

Originally created for Fondation Cartier pour l’art Contemporain, Paris in 1995, “The Diamond Floor” (1995) is a sculptural incarnation of “Five Points Make a Man”, a conceptual motif that appears in many of the artist’s drawings, sculptures and performances.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present two major concurrent exhibitions by Marcel Broodthaers. Décor: A Conquest and Bricks: 1966-1975 will provide viewers with an opportunity to see two distinct and rarely-exhibited bodies of work by one of the most important artists of the last century. This is the first showing of Décor: A Conquest in the UK since its debut in London in 1975.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present Tumescence, a group exhibition featuring works by Peter Doig, Sigmar Polke, Peter Saul and Michael Williams. Typically defined as an exaggerated physical condition of enlargement or swelling, tumescence here describes a feeling in painting. The featured works largely discard conventional notions of formal restraint and classical refinement in favor of a tactile and often sexual exploration of painted imagery.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Danish artist Per Kirkeby. With a career spanning five decades, Kirkeby has developed a unique approach to painting, gradually refining a personal palette and vocabulary of images derived primarily from observations of the natural world. This is the first exhibition in London of new works by the artist since his 2009 retrospective exhibition at Tate Modern.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present Klara 13 Pictures, an exhibition of works by Elizabeth Peyton. Depictions of the artist Klara Liden have appeared with some frequency in the artist's oeuvre in recent years. This exhibition brings many of these works together for the first time. Klara 13 Pictures is comprised of related paintings, drawings and prints created in the past four years.

Wilhelm Lehmbruck is a seminal figure in the development of modernism and the first German sculptor of the twentieth century to significantly impact art on an international scale. Featuring a large selection of sculptures as well as related etchings and works on paper, this is the first major Lehmbruck exhibition in Great Britain since a 1957 exhibition at Tate Gallery.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present Bozzetti for Hercules, an exhibition of sculpture and drawings made around the artist’s sixty-foot sculpture “Hercules”, installed in 2010 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The exhibition was originally exhibited from 2010-2011 at the LehmbruckMuseum in Duisburg.

Michael Werner Gallery in London is pleased to announce an exhibition of major works by the late American artist James Lee Byars, opening 17 January. Early Works & The Angel includes sculptures, scrolls and performative objects dating from the artist’s time in Japan, where he lived and worked for nearly ten years beginning in 1958. Also exhibited is the 1989 sculpture “The Angel”, a work made of 125 hand-blown glass globes created in Venice over a period of one year. This pairing charts the origin of Byars’s aesthetic and examines the artist’s obsession with figuration and his lifelong quest for perfect form.

Michael Werner Gallery is pleased to present Buzz Kill, an exhibition of new works by Aaron Curry. Buzz Kill is Aaron Curry's second exhibition at Michael Werner Gallery and his most ambitious exhibition to date. A monumental sculpture forms the centerpiece of Buzz Kill: extending from the four corners of the gallery, and reaching from the floor to the ceiling, this massive painted aluminum sculpture divides the exhibition space into individual "rooms" through which viewers can move. Buzz Kill is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

Summer Reading is a survey of artists' books and rare editioned works by Georg Baselitz, George Brecht, Marcel Broodthaers, James Lee Byars, Per Kirkeby and Markus Lüpertz published by Michael Werner.

Thomas Houseago presents new works in plaster, wood and bronze for his first New York gallery exhibition.

The exhibition features portraits of women, primarily nudes, by Swiss artist Félix Vallotton (1865-1925). This is the first New York gallery exhibition devoted to the artist's paintings. A fully illustrated catalog including a text by Peter Doig accompanies the exhibition.

Disillusioned by the outcome of European political events of the late nineteen sixties, and dissatisfied with his role as an artist, in 1970 Immendorff joined the League Against Imperialism. Having pledged to produce art in the service of the German Maoist party, Immendorff proceeded to create a unique body of work in stark contrast to the his playfully anarchic paintings and happenings of the previous decade. For Immendorff, the early seventies were a period of intense exploration into the possibilities of melding of art and politics.

New System Paintings presents new works that explore the A.R. Penck's ongoing fascination with visual systems and social structures. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

For summer, Michael Werner Gallery presents GOLDDUST IS MY EX-LIBRIS. This exhibition of works by James Lee Byars includes a major gilded work, as well as works on paper, in which gold is the medium for an aesthetic experience rooted in an ideal of luminous, inaccessible perfection.

Michael Werner Gallery presents Sigmar Polke: Lens Paintings, an exhibition of extraordinary new works from an artist whose career is characterized by over 40 years of radical innovation in painting. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalogue produced by The Arts Club of Chicago, with images of all works exhibited during the tour, and a text by art historian Chrissie Iles.
